What
is the difference between Unix
accounts and Windows accounts?
Unix provides secure and reliable
environment perfect for most
of the hosting needs, but sometimes
you want to take advantage of
some Windows applications such
as MS Access, ASP scripting.
For that you might want to use
NT.
Can
I accept credit card on my site?
Will it be secure?
Yes, Hosting Accelerator and
PLESK supports secure transaction
protocol, such as SSL.
What
is SSL?
The SSL security protocol provides
data encryption, server authentication,
message integrity, and optional
client authentication for a
TCP/IP connection. Because SSL
is built into all major browsers
and web servers, simply installing
a digital certificate turns
on their SSL capabilities.
lost
my password, what should I do?
Go to the control panel site.
Click on the link "forgot
your password", it is usually
located bellow the login box,
and follow the instructions.
What
happens if I excess my data
transfer limit?
Any data transfer in excess
of plan threshold will be charged
at the end of the billing period.
If
I decide to use virtual name
servers, how long does registration
take?
Registration of your virtual
name servers takes approximately
7 days. However, this depends
on how busy Internic is and
we have no way of giving you
an exact time frame.
Does
Internic charge for registering
virtual name servers?
No, there is no registration
fee.
Can
I purchase additional disk space?
Additional disk space can be
purchased through Hosting Accelerator

What
features will my Shared Virtual
Hosting account include?
Here's a list of just some
of the features you'll receive
with your Shared Virtual Hosting
Account Windows
or Linux
Is suEXEC enabled on your
Shared Virtual Servers? Yes,
suEXEC is enabled on our servers.
The suEXEC feature provides
Apache users the ability to
run CGI and SSI programs under
user IDs different from the
user ID of the calling web-server.
Normally, when a CGI or SSI
program executes, it runs
as the same user who is running
the web server. The benefit
of suEXEC is added protection
for you in a shared server
environment.
Do
you provide backup processing?
We backup the data on our
servers every week. Although
we do this free as part of
the service, we do not guarantee
data recovery, so we strongly
recommend that you keep a
remote backup of your files
and data.
What
is a Reseller?
NetHostSpace Reseller plans
allow you to establish your
own hosting business and sell
hosting accounts on NetHostSpace
high powered shared servers.
You define your packages, set
your own pricing. The customers
are your customers to support
and maintain.
Are
there any restrictions to
being a Reseller?
You are required to adhere
to NetHostSpace Terms and
Conditions for Virtual Shared
Servers, including, but not
limited to our Acceptable
Use Policies.
Please note that Bulk Reseller
plans are intended for small
to medium sized sites, not
one large busy site. Large
busy sites tend to use excessive
CPU usage and are more appropriately
hosted on a dedicated server,
such as our VPS or dedicated
server products.
What
reseller tools do you have?
There is a Reseller Web Manager
that allows you to setup and
completely manage your hosting
clients, hosting packages
and managing your accounts.
Your clients will also have
access to their own control
panel for each account (domain)
for managing their web site.
Can
I have my own name servers
and SSL cert?
Yes. Custom nameservers (2)
using your domain name are
included in the reseller options.
You can also purchase your
own certificate or use our
shared SSL certificate.
Who
provides technical support?
As a reseller for NetHostSpace
you will be responsible for
providing general support
to your customers. NetHostSpace
will do all system administration
necessary, as well as be your
second line technical support
engineers if you have a problem
and can't answer it.
Will
NetHostSpace handle the billing
to my customers?
No. Resellers are responsible
for providing billing services
to their clients. NetHostSpace
bills the reseller for the
Bulk Reseller Plan as well
as any over allocated bandwidth
and IPs.
How do I get started?
To get started all you have
to do is signup online for
the Bulk Reseller plan of
your choice. You will receive
your account access information
usually within a couple of
hours, but no later than 24
hours.
What
DNS (name server) changes
will need to be made once
I receive my Bulk Reseller
account?
1. If you are using new name
servers, Contact the registrar
where your domain was registered
and ask them to create these
name servers in their database.
Most registrars allow you
to do this in their control
panel interface. You will
then need to change the name
servers for the domain itself
to these name servers.
2. If you already have your
name servers setup and are
moving from another host you
only need to change the IPs
for your name servers to their
new IPs. This change needs
to be done at the registrar
the domain is registered with.
You will want to move any
accounts associated with this
name server prior to doing
this.
3. 48 - 72 hours after you
have completed step 1 or step
2 your name servers should
be propagating to our servers.
Can
I use my own SSL certificate,
or will NetHostSpace provide
one?
You have the option to either
purchase your own SSL certificate
for use with your Bulk Reseller
account, or to use the shared
certificate installed on the
server. The benefit of purchasing
your own certificate is that
the certificate will reference
your domain name instead of
NetHostSpace.
How
do I move my current site to
NetHostSpace?
Every situation is different,
but generally, there are 4 basic
steps in moving your site from
your current hosting company
to NetHostSpace.
1) Selecting and ordering your
hosting package.
2) Moving the contents of your
current site to your new site.
Setup email accounts, forwarders,
autoresponders, ...
3) Test, Test, Test, and then
Test somemore.
4) Changing the name server
for your domain at the registrar
where your domain is registered.
In 24 to 48 hours, your changes
should start to take effect.
It may take serveral days for
all DNS servers to be updated.
How
do I change my name servers
to NetHostSpace's name servers?
You will need to contact your
registrar to do this. Most
registrars provide you with
a login so that you can manage
your domain through their
website. You can then login
and change your name servers
to the ones we've provided
you with.
If you are unsure of who
is your domain registrar,
you may go to www.tucows.com
and use the 'WHOIS Lookup'
function at the bottom of
the page. Simply enter your
domain name and the 'WHOIS'
output will display your domain
registrar. I'm
using my own personal name
servers. How do I set them
up?
If you're using your own personal
name servers, there are two
steps that must be completed
before you can begin using
them.
First, you will need to create
your name servers so that
they exist in your registrar's
database. You can usually
do this through your registrar's
domain management interface.
If you need assistance, contact
your registrar directly.
Second, you will need to
configure your domain to actually
use your new name servers.
If you receive a message that
your name servers are 'invalid'
or 'do not exist', you likely
did not complete the first
step listed above.
What
are name servers?
Name servers are what route
Internet traffic to the physical
server location of your website.
When someone types your domain
name into their web browser,
name servers are what point
them to the server your website
is hosted on.
Are
there really no other fees except
the initial fee?
There are absolutely NO other
fees! You will never, ever have
to pay us anything again for
your web hosting! If you already
have a domain name, you can
just transfer it to our nameservers.
If you don't already have a
domain name, you can get them
as cheap as $8.95 per year from
GoDaddy.com. But to answer your
question, you will never pay
any other fees for your web
hosting.
How
can you possibly offer good
service for such a low one-time
fee?
We believe the best business
model is to give customers more
than they give us. By satisfying
our customers, they in turn
tell their friends, family,
clients, and partners about
us. This virtually eliminates
the need for us to pay for advertising.
We take the money we save from
advertising and give it right
back to our customers with good,
quality service at an extremely
low price!
How
do I know you guys are going
to be around?
Our servers have been hosting
clients since 1999, and have
been growing ever since. Our
customers are always satisfied,
and are always bringing us more
customers each and every day.
We're also affiliated with ClickBank,
which is another established
company and is here to stay
as well. Also, to prove we're
real, we've posted our actual
address and phone number on
the About Us page. Our goal
is to be the best web hosting
company ever. Period.

We
are looking for a system that
is easy to use and can be administered
through the web. Can your servers
be administered through the
web? Do you charge extra for
it?
Yes, Our servers can be administered
through your choice of Hosting
Automation software. We currently
offer WebHost Manager/CPanel,
Ensim and Plesk.
Do
I need to know how to run Linux
or need an administrator to
run this?
No, WebHost Manager/CPanel,
Ensim and Plesk are very easy
to use once you get used to
their individual interfaces.
They make it easy for you to
run your business. It is important
however that you understand
the responsibilities of the
server owner and have the ability
and willingness to learn. Although
we are willing to do the more
technical aspects if you don't
want to, our standard hourly
labor fees may apply. It's much
better for you to ask us "how
to" so we can provide you
with instructions. This will
allow you to develop the skills
and become more independent.
What
is the difference between SCSI
and IDE?
The primary difference is that
SCSI (Small Computer System
Interface) has a processor built
into the drive which allows
for faster read / writes. IDE
drives rely on the CPU. SCSI
may be beneficial to you if
you are planning to run a database
or other resource intensive
application. An IDE drive is
suitable for standard web serving.
RAID Level 5 provides you with
the redundancy necessary to
recover from a single hard drive
failure. RAID 5 requires a minimum
of 3 hard drives and distributes
parity among all of the drives
to be used to recover data.
Because of the space required
to store parity information,
you lose the disk space of one
drive in order to stripe data
across the drives.

and Support

Software & Support Page
Do
I have to sign a contract?
No, NetHostSpace does not require
you to sign a contract. Services
are provided on a month-to-month
basis, giving you the freedom
to cancel Services or change
Services at any time. We do,
however, offer a 10% discount
for annual payment.
Will
NetHostSpace install and support
3rd party software that’s
not included in their standard
support?
NetHostSpace will install and
assist clients with 3rd party
software upon request for a
standard hourly labor fee if
we have the capacity and skills
to do so, however, we do recommend
you ask the vendor of your software
for this type of support, since
they are the experts of their
system.
What
if my server hardware fails?
We offer a Dedicated Server
hardware SLA to our Dedicated
Server and VPS customers. Because
our Data Center is staffed 24
hours a day, 7 days a week,
365 days a year, we can quickly
react in the event of a hardware
failure. We keep inventory on-site
for all of the systems we offer,
including fully built servers
that can be used to completely
replace a failed system if necessary.
Because we own the hardware,
failed components are replaced
at no charge to our customers.
If
the web server fails, does the
Cpanel and Webhost manger fail
as well?
No. The Cpanel and Webhost Manager
run as a separate service than
the Apache. If the Apache fails
then you simply log into the
Host Manager and restart it.
What
Server Hardware do you use?
A server's hardware components
make a real difference in its
performance. That is why we
use only top of the line components
in all aspects of our operation.
All servers are Pentium III
processors with the best SCSI
and EIDE drives on the market.
RAM, we use PC133 SDRAM.
What
is NetHostSpaces definition
of "support" for these
applications?
We are responsible for installing
and configuring the software
to run properly on your servers.
If there are problems with the
software running properly, we
are responsible for resolving
the problem. We do not make
code changes within the software.
Reasons
for Using SSI
SSI is often used to include
something into an HTML page.
You can insert the contents
of one HTML page into another
page. An example of a practical
usage for this would be to include
your e-mail address at the bottom
of each page. If you do this
as an include, then when your
e-mail address changes, you
will only have to update it
on one page and not your entire
web site. Another usage is to
call cgi scripts into action.
Many counters, clocks, and other
scripts are called using SSI.
The command used will most likely
be provided in the documentation
of
your cgi script.
Whats
the correct path to perl?
Before a cgi script will work
certain modifications must be
made to them. Certain paths
must be specified in some scripts.
After the "#" in the
first line of the perl script,
the path to perl must be specified.
/usr/bin/perl should suffice
for this path. Below is a printout
of a "whereis perl"
from our system.
perl: /usr/bin/perl
What
is the path to send mail?
Another program that needs to
be specified in many scripts
is sendmail. This is located
at /usr/lib/sendmail
What
is the exact physical path to
your root directory on the webserver?
The path to your root directory
is:
/home/username/
Why
doesn't my CGI work?
Make sure when you upload the
CGI file DO NOT upload in binary
mode, instead use ASCII mode.
Uploading in binary will cause
the server not to recognize
the scripts as executables.
Most FTP clients will upload
.pl or .cgi files in binary
mode by default so you will
need to change this. You will
need to upload the scripts into
your cgi-bin directory for security
reasons, however they will execute
from anywhere within your account.
The last step is to set the
file permissions. This is otherwise
known as chmoding and can be
done from most FTP clients.
For specifics on chmoding you
can refer to our "chmoding
files" help section.
Reasons
for CHMODING
CHMODing files can be done for
a variety of reasons. You can
CHMOD files to do things such
as: mark them executable, give
them write permission, restrict
access to them, and a variety
of other reasons. It is important
to note that chmoding is nearly
impossible to avoid. If you
are trying to run a certain
cgi script it could require
execute permissions on the script
itself, write permissions on
a directory, and read on an
informational page. Your cgi
scripts should contain the proper
documentation to inform you
of the proper CHMOD's.
List
of CHMOD's and what they mean.s
chmod 777 filename The file
is available for Read, Write,
and Execute for the owner, group,
and world.
chmod 755 filename The file
is available for Read, Write,
and Execute for the owner; and
Read and Execute only for the
group and world.
chmod 644 filename The file
is available for Read and Write
for the owner, and Read only
for the group and world.
chmod 666 filename The file
is available for Read and Write
for the owner, group, and world.
I wonder if the 666 number is
just a coincidence. Anybody
can create havoc with your files
with this wide-open permission
mask.
Anonymous
FTP users don't see the content
of my directory.
Anonymous FTP users can't enter
your root directory. They can
enter only the directory you
dedicated for anonymous ftp
users. How come my
virtual FTP users can browse
my root directory?
Your virtual FTP users can have
access to more than one virtual
FTP directory, so you need to
allow them to enter the root
dir. You can use FTP subaccounts
to restrict their access to
only one directory.
When
I'm trying to connect to my
account using FTP, the system
doesn't respond for some time
and then logs out with an error.
Use FTP active mode (disable
passive). It is in your computer's
FTP configuration.
ASP
is not working, however the
button next to this resource
on the Domain Web Service page
is set to ON.
Check if the *.asp files are
not included into SSI section.
It's a common mistake. If you
set the *.asp files to be lauched
via SSI library, set ASP to
OFF, delete the *.asp extension
from SSI list and then set ASP
to ON again.
I
am getting errors with FrontPage.
Try switching it off and back
on.
FrontPage
Usage
FrontPage supplies you with
two separate interfaces. The
FrontPage explorer is used to
manage the files within your
web site. If you open a file
in your web site another program
called FrontPage Editor will
open. When you are connected
to your web then all changes
made to any file you edit will
be saved to your web.
